ABOUT THE PowerPipe® INVENTOR - Steve Petersen is a 1978 graduate of Barrington High School where he also played baseball as a catcher for the Broncos. After completing High School, Steve continued to catch for The Barrington Post 158 American Legion Baseball Team. In 1979, Post 158 won the Illinois American Legion State Baseball Championship and placed third in the nation at The American Legion National World Series Tournament that same year. Steve then went on to attend and play baseball for the College of Lake County. While catching for the team, Steve helped The College of Lake County capture its first Illinois College State Baseball Title in 1980. Known for his superior and consistent ability to hit a baseball with authority as well as excellent defensive skills, Steve was recruited by Eddie Stanky and completed his studies and baseball playing career for the Jaguars at the University of South Alabama before entering business.
Steve designed and developed The PowerPipe® Training System over an eight year period after continuing to observe countless baseball and softball hitters exhibiting what he felt to be marginal bat speed, deficient hip explosion and extension combined with premature top hand bat release tendencies. In his opinion, far too many batters are still failing to “attack and drive the ball even with counts in their favor”. At the same time, he senses shortfalls in much or most of the on-deck game hitting preparation he sees and believes few programs or players are realizing the large benefit of combining thin-bat overweight technologies with game bat use during batting practice or in their regular training routines. The PowerPipe® Training System was designed and developed to address and significantly improve these as well as other lacking essentials and absolutes required for improved hitting mechanics. By complementing strength conditioning program regimens in unique ways, The PowerPipe® Training System also takes total power optimization to the next level for hitters. Petersen’s approach is fundamental: “keep it simple, see the ball, hit it and drive it”!
Steve and his family reside in Barrington, Illinois, where they run The Petersen School of Hitting. This private indoor/outdoor training facility is made available to those aspiring athletes willing to diligently put in the hard work required for improvement of hitting proficiency. Steve also operates and manages The Barrington Rough Riders, a U14 travel baseball team for advanced younger players. Sons Jake and Rayth are also heavily involved in baseball and share a family passion for The Game.
